I. Definition of Reducer
The (reducer), as an important power transmission mechanism, can reduce the rotation speed of the motor to the required rotation speed through the speed conversion effect of gears and achieve a significant increase in torque.
II. Functions of Reducer
1. While reducing the rotational speed, it significantly increases the output torque. The output ratio of the torque is calculated by multiplying the output of the motor by the reduction ratio, but it must be noted that the rated torque of the reducer cannot be exceeded. 2. During the deceleration process, the inertia of the load is simultaneously reduced. The reduction in inertia is the square of the reduction ratio. Usually, there is a corresponding inertia value for the motor for reference.

Common reducer types are rich and diverse, including helical gear reducers (including parallel shaft helical gear reducers, worm gear reducers, bevel gear reducers, etc.), planetary gear reducers, cycloidal pinwheel reducers, worm and worm gear reducers, planetary friction mechanical stepless speed variators, and so on.
IV. Characteristics of Common Reducers and Purchasing Suggestions
1. (Worm and worm gear reducer): The outstanding feature is that it has a reverse self-locking function and can achieve a large reduction ratio. Its input shaft and output shaft are not on the same axis or in the same plane. However, this type of reducer is usually large in size, has a relatively low transmission efficiency, and needs improvement in terms of accuracy. 2. Harmonic reducer: Harmonic transmission relies on the controllable elastic deformation of flexible components to transmit motion and power. It has a small volume and high precision. However, the life of its flexspline has certain limitations, is not resistant to impact, has a relatively weak rigidity compared to metal parts, and the input speed should not be too high. 3. (Planetary reducer): The advantages lie in its compact structure, small backlash, high precision, long service life, and the rated output torque can reach a large value. But relatively speaking, the price will be slightly higher.
